Halo: Combat Devolved is SofaSwordsman’s top-down Game Boy Color reinterpretation of Halo: Combat Evolved. Its creator publishes an HTML browser version and downloadable ROMs. Two missions recreate the Pillar of Autumn and Halo; the update adds reloading, melee and an updated HUD. This is a small fan project with handheld-style presentation, separate from the original first-person Halo campaign.
Select Run game, wait for the embedded player and click it to give the game keyboard focus.
Use the movement keys and the A/B mappings below. Start and Select use Enter and Shift; follow the game’s own prompts for each action.
Use the browser demo for the demake. The creator also provides .gbc and .pocket files and recommends download play for better sound.
These inputs describe the linked project or original game. Follow the platform-specific notes and the primary documentation before starting.
| ACTION | INPUT | NOTES |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | W A S D / Arrow keys | Creator-published browser mapping. |
| Game Boy A button | Z / J | Use the on-screen prompts for the action assigned to A. |
| Game Boy B button | X / K | Handheld B-button mapping, not the original Halo PC layout. |
| Start / Select | Enter / Shift | Give the embedded game focus first. |
The author names GB Studio as the development tool. The browser release plays the handheld demake; calling it a full Halo CE WebAssembly engine port would be inaccurate.
The download page is owned by the demake’s creator. The commercial Halo release is provided as a separately labeled store reference.

Images are supplied by SofaSwordsman on the project page. The updated project image illustrates the demake, not the commercial Halo game or a completed local playthrough.
Try another current desktop browser and refocus the embedded player. The author also suggests downloading the ROM and using an emulator if browser startup fails.
The creator explicitly notes in-browser emulator sound limitations and recommends the downloadable version for the best experience.
Combat Devolved uses a top-down handheld format. Open the separate Halo: Combat Evolved page for the commercial campaign route.
It is a fan demake inspired by that game, not the original engine or complete commercial campaign.
The current creator description lists two missions and marks the project in development. Future levels are not promised by this directory.
No. The linked project and published controls were researched, but rendering, audio and completion need a separate hands-on session.
